[Set in [livejournal.com profile] wayward_au. Jinx is an NPC for [livejournal.com profile] smart_alec494 and used with permission from his mun who made a request for a future House and Jinx fic with the prompt “conversation.”]

Jinx had his paws up on the desk next to him, not that he really needed the height advantage to see what House was doing. It was more so that he could get a look over the machinery to where Alec was lying, stiff as a board, in the MRI machine. The dog was protective, House knew that—he’d been on the wrong end of it more than once. But with these more stronger seizures that Alec seemed to be getting lately, House wanted regular MRIs to make sure that his brain wasn’t frying from the overload. So far everything seemed fine, but he wasn’t one to take chances. Especially with people he cared about who he saw on a regular basis. If they died—he’d be alone, and that was the last thing House wanted.

He was a selfish bastard that way.

So Jinx was watching the machine like it was going to grow teeth and eat his master, and House was just casting amused glances between him and the screen, making sure there weren’t any anomalies that he needed to be worried about. “You know, I’ve been working one of these for a long time. I think I know how it works.”

Jinx just gave him a look like he was a moron, and House tried not to laugh. He’d never met a dog who could be that eloquent with just a look, which was probably one of the reasons why he and Alec were such a good match for each other. A person who was that intelligent probably wouldn’t have connected as strongly with an average dog. Alec looked at Jinx as more than an animal, and that wouldn’t have happened if the dog wasn’t as smart as he was.
